About Lê Mai

About Lê Mai レ・マイについて

A bar of soap needs oil, lye, and eight weeks.

Three bars of Turmeric Beer soap, stacked

A bar of soap

Oil meets lye in a wooden mould. No heat. The soap rests in the mould, then is cut into bars.

Eight weeks later, the excess water has gone. The bar has hardened enough to use. There is no faster way.

Each bar is wrapped in paper, cut to its exact size.

One code for one scent

Every scent at Lê Mai has a number. 061 is lemongrass.

The same code runs through many objects: bar soap, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, hand soap, essential oil. The form changes. The scent stays.

Know one code, and you know that scent in every form it takes.

Essential oils, body oils

Each bottle of single essential oil is one plant. An essential oil blend is several plants in one bottle, under its own code.

Body oils begin with plant oils and plant butters.

Perfume

Penta de Le Mai is the perfume line of Lê Mai. Each scent begins with observing one thing: a plant, a cup of tea, a piece of wood.

Each scent is a way of looking again at something familiar. It tells no story. It does not speak for the one who wears it.

The scent opens on skin and shifts over the hours. Each person keeps a version of their own.

Library

Every ingredient Lê Mai uses has a page in the library: name, origin, scent, safe use. The library is open to anyone who wishes to read.

What remains

A bar of soap does not say the same thing to two pairs of hands.

The objects are set out. What remains is the meeting between a person and an object.
