Ginger grass (Cymbopogon martinii var. sofia) is a lemongrass family plant native to India. Fresh ginger, warm earth, a faint rose. It differs from palmarosa (Cymbopogon martinii var. motia): related, but two separate scents that cannot replace each other.

The oil is steam distilled from fresh leaves harvested in India, unadulterated.

In perfume and room fragrance, ginger grass works as a middle note, linking the layers together.

Dilute to a maximum of 1% for use on skin. Not phototoxic. Store in a dry place away from direct sunlight. Shelf life 36 months unopened, 12 months after opening.

Ginger Grass, common Ginger and Palmarosa, the difference:
Cymbopogon martinii has two completely different varieties: var. sofia (Ginger grass) and var. motia (Palmarosa, Sả Hồng). Ginger Grass carries a distinctive earthy ginger scent thanks to its high piperitone content, while Palmarosa leans toward sweet rose, with geraniol dominant. Ginger Grass is also easily confused with common ginger (Zingiber officinale); however, the two species belong to different plant families with distinct chemical compositions and cannot replace each other.

How to use

Diffusing (Aromatherapy): add 3–6 drops to a diffuser or oil burner; use for 30–60 minutes at a time, 2–3 times/day.
Diluted on skin (Topical): max dilution 1% with carrier oil (jojoba, almond, coconut); e.g. 6 drops EO in 30ml carrier oil. For massage, skincare and spot application.
Relaxing bath (Bath): mix 5–8 drops with a spoon of whole milk or Epsom salt, then add to a warm bath.

Safety notes

Maximum 1% dilute before applying to skin (about 6 drops in 30ml carrier oil). Do not apply undiluted essential oil to the skin. Patch test before first use. Avoid eyes, mucous membranes and open wounds.

Pregnant and breastfeeding women: consult a doctor before use. Not recommended for children under 2.

Non-phototoxic. No major contraindications when used at the correct dilution.

Storage instructions

Shelf life: 36 months from the date of manufacture; 12 months after opening.

Store in a dry, dark place below 25°C. Avoid direct sunlight and high heat. Close the cap tightly after use and keep the bottle upright.
